I always thought I had a love for Italian food. And with time, as I went around to taste more variety, I think I enjoyed it more and more. So whenever I am asked by my friends, I am always up for an Italian treat.
Summer time is really nice in NYC. The restaurants have open seating arrangements, where you can spend the evening under the open sky, see the people walking up and down the busy streets and feel the air, while you enjoy your meal.
Last weekend, as I was in NYC with a couple of friends for dinner, we stepped into a Italian restaurant in downtown. We decided to sit outside and enjoy the breeze, however, it was getting cold and after we had appetizers, we asked the waitress to find us a table inside the restaurant.
She gladly agreed and helped us in. With a nice cosy table for three, dim-lit ambiance, and the soft critter-clatter of crockery, we took our seats. The table covered with a white paper sheet instead of a table cloth, I thought, wow!! that's very economical, and different. Well, that was not it. There, behind the small candle stand, was a small glass with color crayons in it. So the idea was not just the paper table cover, but for the customers to scribble things on it.
Without even thinking about it once, I picked up the colors, and there I was trying to draw a picture of my whole world on that small sheet of paper - writing quotes, signing names, and drawing things.
I am sure I enjoyed doing that, even more than my meal. And then, before I left, I made sure I left a fat tip for the waitress, for her nice warm smile and her service.
Still, I kept thinking, was it the food, the ambiance, or that unique idea?
